Mail | City and Suburban's closing 'a disgrace'

A reader who requests anonymity sent the following in an e-mail, concerning last year's closing of the company's City and Suburban newspaper distribution subsidiary. The closing eliminated about 500 jobs.

I worked for City and Suburban Delivery systems for 13 years. It was the biggest wholesale newspaper delivery company in the country. What the New York Times Co. did to us was nothing short of a disgrace: Forced us into negotiations by threatening to close, then getting us to give up 6% in raises over two years. We then signed a contract until 2020 and just two years in, they close the place. After dealing with this company for so long, I don't trust a word they have to say.
