Stock | Riding rally, shares beating S&P-500

Just four trading days into the New Year, shares in two of the stocks I follow -- New York Times Co. and Gannett -- have handily outperformed the widely watched S&P-500 index, according to closing prices moments ago. So far in 2010, the S&P is up 2.4%. Contrast that with the performance of:

• New York Times Co.: up 15%, closing at $14.20
• Gannett: up 14%, closing today at $16.88
